So Lollipop can continue to provide free activities to its members we need to concentrate on summer fundraisers in York during June and July and we need our supporter’s help!
Saturday 18th June we will be at St Crux serving food and refreshments all day with stalls outside the hall
Sunday 26th June is West Bank Park Fair 1-4pm
Sunday 3rd July is the Sleeper Market in New Earswick 10am – 2.30pm
Sunday 10th July we have a stall at the Dragon Boat Race 10am – 4pm
We need lots of volunteers to bake, staff stalls with Lollipop staff, transport stall items, help setting up and tidying away. All these fundraising events are family-friendly so you can help out for an hour or two whilst bringing the whole family along for some summer fun!

We were surprised and delighted to receive a donation from Shouksmiths York last week! Shouksmiths donated £1,000 to Lollipop in 2021, and have now donated a further £2,000! This is amazing news and these funds will go towards providing awesome FREE activities for our members during the second half of the year. A huge thank you to Shouksmiths for recognising the work of Lollipop and for their continued support!
Lollipop has received a £250 donation from a supporter to run digital music apps sessions for our members! The donation was received through a contact of our Ambassador Paul Whittaker and the sessions will be devised and delivered by Sean Chandler from the National Centre for Early Music I Can Play! team in the Autumn term of 2022. Exact dates are to be confirmed. They will be a short series of three online sessions held after school on Tuesdays.
We will keep you posted in the newsletter and in the Upcoming Activities page of the website. If you or your child/ren are members of Lollipop and are interested in the sessions please express your interest to Becky at admin@lollipopyork.org.uk
Lollipop was nominated to be part of the Asda Foundation Green Token Giving campaign for January and we are delighted to report that we won the vote! Thank you to all our amazing supporters who were there each week to vote online to keep us in the lead! Lollipop will receive a £500 donation and the second and third places each receive £200.
A huge thank you to The Brotherton Charitable Trust based in Harrogate who have become regular annual supporters of Lollipop. This year Lollipop has received £325 for which we are very grateful! These funds will go towards providing activities for our members in the coming year.
We are very happy and excited about receiving a Magic Little Grant through the partnership between Localgiving and Postcode Neighbourhood Trust. Postcode Neighbourhood Trust is a grant-giving charity funded by players of People’s Postcode Lottery.
Localgiving is the UK’s leading membership and support network for local charities and community groups. Our project received £500 to fund our activities for members in the first months of 2022! Our members have requested climbing, an escape room challenge and pizza making and swimming and we are in the process of planning all these events!
Our 2021 Prize Draw was a great success and raised £848.50!
In 2021 we decided to make tickets available both online via a GoFundMe page and with traditional paper tickets. We have some amazing ticket sellers among our supporters and they got to work throughout November and December to help us raise as much as possible.
Making tickets available online meant that supporters could easily forward the link to their family and friends and they could buy tickets without having to leave the house!
We also had a Name the Gnome game at the Christmas Party which was good fun! The sisters who picked the winning name were overjoyed to take Grumpy home for Christmas! Thank you to Dunelm York for kindly donating Grumpy to Lollipop!
Many local businesses donated prizes and we are very grateful for their continued support.
The winners of our Name the Gnome game! He is officially named ‘Grumpy’!
We have had amazing success with our first ever Aviva Community Fund Project! We have not only met our initial target of £2,000 we have reached our stretch target of £5,000!

What will your pledges enable us to do?
In order to ensure our activities are accessible for all our members, using their preferred method of communication, we provide a range of communication support for ALL Lollipop activities.
This is a huge but vital expense to the tight budget of the charity. If we reach our target, this will allow us to secure communication support to deliver our inclusive Events Programme for the next 12 months.
Depending on the need of individuals attending the activities, we will provide the following support:
British Sign Language (BSL) interpreters
Speech-to-text-reporters (STTR)
Lip-speakers
Who will benefit from the funding?
Some of the funds will help support our Early Years group, who are now meeting face-to-face once again. Many of our youngest members (some of whom were only born in lockdown) are only just meeting other children of a similar age for the very first time – which is pivotal to their learning and development.
“I feel that it is essential that my daughter has the opportunity to meet and play with other deaf children on the same level as her hearing friends so that she knows why her hearing loss should not make her feel different or hold her back in any way.”
“My son has felt so welcome and enjoyed making new friends at Lollipop. This is his only contact with other hearing-impaired people and has been a really positive experience for all of us.”
“My daughter has enjoyed each experience with Lollipop. Lollipop makes my daughter feel better about wearing her hearing aids.”
The money raised will also be used to provide support to our junior and youth groups, at various monthly activities. Our youths have requested to go swimming, ice-skating, pizza making, and would also like to attempt a climbing wall and an escape room…They love a challenge!
We also run a mentoring scheme supported by deaf mentors to help deaf children and young people develop skills for the future. Research shows that good social and emotional resilience is important for all children. Helping deaf children and young people to develop this is at the heart of Lollipop’s thinking.
“Having a mentor increases my son’s independence as he is then not reliant on those close to him in everyday life. He loves going to Lollipop and has made lots of friends there, he definitely has a feeling of belonging to the group which has increased his confidence, self-esteem and improved his social skills.”
We listen to our members to make sure that we are providing what people need and have a close working relationship with professionals working in York and North Yorkshire. Our members are keep their fingers crossed that we reach our target!
Lollipop is primarily funded through The National Lottery Community Fund. We are also funded by BBC Children In Need with further support from many local and national organisations.
