The National Centre for Early Music will be hosting its first ever I Can Play! Inspiration Day on the 19th of June, to bring an array of musical activities to D/deaf children and young people online.
I Can Play! is a project that aims to bring music making opportunities to D/deaf children and young people, who are often excluded or discouraged to engage with music. I Can Play! has continued to grow over 9 years through research and development projects and now reaches many D/deaf children and young people all over the UK through its digital projects, which were developed as a result of the pandemic.

Workshops
The day will be hosted by the fantastic musicians from Music and the Deaf, who will lead children and young people through some fun and accessible music workshops that they can join in with at home. These will be hosted via Zoom so participants will have the opportunity to interact with practitioners live! There are two workshops available, one suitable for primary aged children and the other for secondary aged young people.
Q+A
After this there will be a Q+A via Zoom, which will allow children, young people and their families to meet the musicians and talk to them about their experiences of being a D/deaf musician and music teacher. This session would also be suitable for any music practitioners wanting to talk to the musicians about the benefits of making music with D/deaf children and young people.
Concert
The day will be finished off the with a superb live performance via Youtube by all of the Music and the Deaf practitioners, suitable for the whole family to enjoy.
It will be a fun packed day of inspiring workshops, talks and performances. All sessions will be supported by a BSL interpreter.
