Do you have a few hours a month to spare to help a local charity?

LOLLIPOP is a York-based charity that offers social and emotional support to children, young people and their families with any degree of deafness from mild to profound. We offer a wide range of regular FREE activities to provide our members (aged 0-25) with a deaf peer group to build confidence and self-esteem, develop their self-identity and prepare them for adult life.

As a Lollipop volunteer (D/deaf or Hearing) you could get involved in a number of different areas depending on your skills and interests:

  • Join our Events Team to help plan and organise fun activities for our members
  • Join our Fundraising Team to come up with innovative new ways to raise money
  • Help out at activities and/or fundraising events to make sure they run smoothly
  • Evaluate activities to identify what works well and what we could do differently
  • Be a D/deaf role model to support and inspire other D/deaf young people
  • Share news or stories of interest to members and their families via our newsletter or blog

You don’t have to limit yourself to just one area, get involved with as much as you like!

No experience needed as relevant training and supervision will be provided. Knowledge of BSL and/or experience of working with young people with additional needs is desirable but not essential. If you are willing to share your time, skills and ideas to help support the local D/deaf community, this could be the perfect volunteer role for you!

To apply, please email servicemanager@lollipopyork.org.uk (subject line ‘Lollipop Volunteer’) attaching your CV plus a cover letter stating:

  • why you would like to volunteer with Lollipop
  • which areas you would be most interested in
  • what skills, qualities and experience you could bring to the charity
  • contact details including email addresses of two referees

Successful candidates will be required to undertake an enhanced DBS check paid for by Lollipop and attend Deaf Awareness Training
