Amanda Smith

Amanda was born profoundly deaf and has worked her way up to Associate Professor for British Sign Language and Deaf Studies at York St John’s University. Throughout her career, Amanda has gained qualifications in sign language, academic practice, coaching and mentoring, health practice, and leadership and management. She has worked with SEN pupils, taught BSL to both adults and children, and also teaches deaf awareness at the University and to organisations and businesses in the surrounding area. Being deaf has given Amanda a true experience of what children and young people need to succeed with a disability.
