There’s a new opportunity available in York for adults to learn lip reading skills and tips for boosting confidence and hearing management. The course is run by Rachel Barber, who is qualified with the Association of Teachers of Lipreading to Adults.

Rachel says ‘Do you feel like you struggle to follow conversations? You’re not alone and there’s something you can do it. Even with hearing aids, noisy rooms or group conversations can feel frustrating or tiring. Lip reading helps you use what you see to support what you hear, making everyday conversations easier and less stressful’.

Run by Rachel Barber who’s a familiar face in York’s disability circles and who’s profoundly deaf and been lipreading all her life, the course can be done in person or online.

The first 10 week block starts in person on 16th September at the MySight York office, 84-86 Walmgate, York (the old Evening Press office) which is fully accessible, including a loop, microphone, Roger microphone loop, and captions. For costs, including discounted rates, and for more details, contact Rachel on 07379 433707; rachel.barber@living4moments.com or see her website at www.living4moments.com

There’s also a taster session ahead of the next block which will be at 2pm on 24th September at the same venue.
