An Archeological Adventure!
Members had a hands-on search for archeological artefacts as they became trainee diggers! Jorvik DIG welcomed Lollipop for a morning session which began with a short talk about what archaeology is and what archaeologists find when excavating a dig site – coins, bones, pottery, and coprolite – fossilised human poo! We learned that archaeologists like to find human coprolite because it tells us so much about humans in the past. Next we grabbed our trowels and got digging in the four replica excavation pits where we found artefacts from Roman, Viking, medieval and Victorian times. All the artefacts have been found in York and give an amazing insight into what life was like in York over the last 2000 years!
A huge thank you to Jorvik Dig for having us! Some photos are below…
