“I have always found it difficult to share how I really feel about being deaf, and the positives and negatives that come with it. It would’ve been nice when I was growing up to have someone of a closer age to talk to when things got rough, even if it was only on the odd occasion. Having minimal opportunities to talk to someone who is going through similar experiences as myself, encouraged me to volunteer as a mentor at Lollipop. I really believe for young deaf people to become proud of who they are, it helps to hear that someone else has struggled in a similar way to them, and to offer them hope and solutions; my role as a Mentor at Lollipop allows me to do that.”
